INSEAD Energy Club: How renewables will transform Europe’s power markets

Renewable power generation is expected to grow by 3-5x by 2050, with solar and wind contributing up to 70% of total power generation. This shift will have huge implications for European and Norwegian power markets. Electricity prices will be increasingly volatile, with more frequent negative prices, but also higher prices during peaks such as winter. How will we need to adapt our energy systems to handle this volatility? Will Norway’s flexible hydropower enable us to reduce the volatility? And how will the world’s demand for AI impact the energy markets

BCG invites INSEAD alumni and friends to a discussion on these and more topics. Experts from BCG’s Energy and Climate & Sustainability practices will share their perspectives before we go into a Q&A on the topic. After the discussion, there will be opportunity for mingling accompanied by tapas and drinks.

Date: Tue, 12 Nov 2024

Time: 17:00 – 20:30 CET

INSEAD Norway: Transforming Norway’s architecture as an energy nation

INSEAD NORWAY: TRASNFORMING NORWAY”S ARCHITECTURE AS AN ENERGY NATION

For decades, Norway has been a key supplier of energy to Europe, and a significant part of the solution to Europe’s recent energy crisis. But as the production of oil and gas from the Norwegian Continental Shelf declines and Europe transitions towards cleaner energy, we need to reinvent Norway’s position as a leading energy nation: How to keep up the energy output? What does the architecture of our energy infrastructure need to look like?

BCG invites INSEAD alumni and friends to a discussion on how Norway should evolve to profitably address Europe’s Energy trilemma.

Experts from BCG’s Energy and Climate & Sustainability practice will share their perspectives, before we go into a Q&A on the topic. The speakers will be:

• Sverre Lindseth: Partner in the Oslo Office, focusing on supporting integrated energy companies through the energy transition

• Anne Marthine Rustad: Principal in the Oslo office, focusing on energy transition, renewable energy, and offshore wind

• Klara Råbu: Project Leader in the Oslo office, focusing on renewable energy and offshore wind

After the discussion, there will be opportunity for mingling accompanied by tapas and drinks.

Speaker: Philippe Charle, Author “The underside of an energy catastrophy” and “The 10 commandments of the energy transition”

This event is in French

Philippe Charlez will offer us a deep dive into the current energy crisis. The challenge is not only about technology, economics and society. It is also about geopolitics. In a divided world of rising nationalism and resurging wars, the energy transition will require the construction of a new world order with much more collaboration.

Philippe Charlez is an engineer from the École Polytechnique de Mons (Belgium) and Doctor in Physics from the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris. An internationally recognized expert in energy, he is the author of numerous books and articles on the energy transition. Philippe Charlez teaches at Science Po, Dauphine, INSEAD, Mines Paris Tech, ISSEP and CIFE. He is a regular columnist in numerous media and regularly speaks as an expert on the energy transition and economic growth. He is the expert in Energy Questions at the Sapiens Institute.
