New Executive Education Programme on Product Management

Dear INSEAD Alumni

We wanted you to know that INSEAD has developed a new ground-breaking Executive Education Programme that focuses on Product Management and helps Product Managers prepare to make the transition to become Product Executives.

INSEAD has recently partnered with Product Management Festival to develop the Product Management Executive Programme (PMEP).  PMEP provides current and rising Product Managers with the tools, knowledge and know-how to lead effectively and to amplify their impact in the organisation.

There is a new call for Product Leaders within companies, reflecting the increasing importance of the product manager in today’s business environment.  As organisations shift from linear producers of products to ecosystems, capable of incorporating big data analyses into all facets of product design and execution, product managers are taking on bigger roles.

But many product managers face new challenges that they may not be ready for. They have to motivate their teams and an array of stakeholders inside and outside of the organisation, often without formal authority.  They may have become savvy at a technical craft that has enabled them to develop their organisation’s suite of products and move up the ranks, but the “management” side of product management is often (and understandably) under-developed.

We have attached a brochure on this new PMEP initiative that will hopefully answer your questions about the overall content, the benefits for participants and the recommended participant profile.

The deadline for individuals to apply for admission to the PMEP is 23 April.

IN-BOARD Nordic Academy 2018 – An INSEAD Alumni Board Initiative

An INSEAD Alumni Board Initiative

After two successful years, the IN-BOARD Nordic Academy will be continuing again in Oslo, Stockholm and Fontainebleau. The IN-BOARD academy aims to strengthen leaders for current and future board roles. The workshops sessions this year are:

  • Fri, Aug 31 –  Sat, Sep 1 – Workshop 1 – Strategy with McKinsey in Oslo
  • Fri, Sep 21 – Sat, Sep 22 – Workshop 2 – Legal & Compliance with PwC in Oslo
  • Fri, Oct 12 – Sat, Oct 13 – Workshop 3 – Human Resources with Egon Zehnder and Communications with First House in Stockholm
  • Nov 22-24 or 23-25 – Workshop 4 – Sessions at INSEAD Fontainebleau, France with other IN-BOARD groups from Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and the Nordics.

Participation is open to all INSEAD Alumni with management experience.

With the support of INSEAD Alumni Association of Norway (IAAN) and partner companies, the cost of the academy is 950 EUR for the first 3 workshops in Oslo and Stockholm. The session at INSEAD in Fontainebleau is an additional 4400 EUR, and is optional. Participants are responsible for own travel and accommodation costs. The IN-BOARD is a non-profit initiative for IAAN.

Participation is limited and applications for the first 3 workshops in Oslo close on May 30, 2018. The application deadline for the 4th workshop in Fontainebleau will be on September 15, 2018.

INSEAD ranked as #2 in Financial Times Global MBA Rankings 2018

Today, the Financial Times (FT) announced the results of its Global MBA Rankings 2018. INSEAD’s MBA programme was ranked #2, and Stanford’s MBA programme was #1. INSEAD’s three-year average (2016-2018) remains #1, followed by Stanford and Wharton.

While we had hoped to retain the #1 position for a third consecutive year, rankings inevitably change. This year, the rankings shifted as a result of salary growth. Although the average salary of INSEAD alumni increased about $10,000, the average salary of Stanford alumni increased about $20,000.

We are proud of INSEAD’s strong position on the global stage. Our track record speaks to the rigour of our MBA programme, the calibre of our alumni and the significance of our school.

Good news overall

INSEAD continues to perform well on other global MBA rankings. In the 2017/18 academic year, the MBA programme was ranked:

  • #1 in the Bloomberg Businessweek International MBA Rankings 2017
  • #1 in the Poets & Quants International MBA Rankings 2017 (third year in a row)
  • #2 in the Forbes International One-Year MBA 2017 and second-highest ROI
  • #2 in the QS World MBA Rankings (#1 among Asian and European schools)

It’s also worth noting that INSEAD is one of five business schools to ever hold the #1 position on the FT ranking. We’re in good company with Harvard, Stanford, Wharton and London Business School.

Opportunities for growth

As the FT ranking acknowledged, the percentage of women in INSEAD’s MBA programme was 36% this year—a significant increase from last year’s 30%. It’s gratifying to see this progress, but there is still work ahead of us. The Gender Initiative, coupled with this year’s celebration of 50 years of women in our MBA programme, is bringing greater attention to this issue and reaffirming our commitment to gender balance.

Rankings aside, INSEAD is committed to developing business leaders who, through their knowledge, creativity and skills, promote peace and prosperity around the world. As the Business School for the World, this is our raison d’être, and it guides all that we do.

Results from INSEAD’s Alumni Impact Survey

As part of INSEAD’s iW50 celebrations the school has undertaken a global alumni study to assess how alumni impact their organisations and the wider community. in this webinar INSEAD professor Zoe Kinias will reveal the results of the survey and review lessons learned during INSEAD iW50 year. We will also discuss how the iW50 goals are going to be carried on after the end of the year and review the future of INSEAD’s Gender Diversity Initiative.

An open seminar in Helsinki with INSEAD professor Yves Doz

What can we learn from the legacy of Nokia? This is a question that will be addressed not only by reviewing the past, but also by looking into the future.

Members of INSEAD Alumni were invited to an open seminar in which Professor Yves Doz (INSEAD) organised by Aalto University School of Business on Thursday November 22nd 2017. Professor Doz has a long-term relationship with Nokia’s senior management, and thus a privileged position to study the evolution of Nokia in the mobile phone industry in depth, from its very beginnings to 2013.

The evening opened with a short presentation by Professor Doz, highlighting some of his key findings, followed by a panel discussion on the lessons that can be drawn from Nokia’s recent history and the implications of its legacy for Finland today and in the future. The panel featured:

  • Juha Äkräs, Executive-in-Residence, Aalto University, School of Business
  • Eero Vaara, Professor, Aalto University, School of Business

This was a very exciting and very high profile presentation. It turned out to be the most popular alumni event we organised in 2017. It was  very popular event  also among Aalto alumni. The Aalto School of Business big lecture hall was booked to last seat.


Visit to Marimekko 7th December 2017

A group of INSEAD alumni participated in a visit to Marimekko, an iconic fashion, textiles and home furnishing provider, on 7th December 2017. The visit was hosted by Mr. Kari Härkönen, Chief Digital Officer and an INSEAD MBA from December 2010.

The visit started with a tour of Marimekko’s Helsinki textile printing factory where the visitors learned interesting facts about textile printing technology, supply chain management as well as Marimekko’s unique approach of combining art, craftmanship and modern production technology.

Interesting discussions over a dinner led visitors to the highlight of the visit – Mr. Härkönen’s insightful presentation of e-commerce and its growing importance in Marimekko’s business and in the fashion industry in general. There was a lot of questions and diverse debate over the topic, keeping the atmosphere warm and energetic. It certainly felt that all the visitors were truly inspired and very happy to have participated!
