IN-BOARD, the INSEAD Alumni Board Initiative, is an executive education programme that, in best INSEAD lifelong-learning tradition, prepares INSEAD Alumni for board work. IN-BOARD is an initiative developed by alumni for alumni. It is IN-BOARD‘s objective to address the deficits in corporate governance that have emerged over the past years by offering a tailor-made seminar to make board members’ input on a company’s board effective. The outcome is supposed to be “the INSEAD-trained and IN-BOARD conditioned” non-executive director who can make a difference through her/his contribution to a company’s board.
The four German modules which deal with local aspects of board work, are provided by renowned consultancy firms Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Clifford Chance, YB Consulting and Board Xperts, EY and PwC Strategy& and KPMG.
INSEAD itself brings in its competence with the “Leadership Program” conducted over a long weekend on campus in Fontainebleau. Here, the behavioural aspects of board work “Board Dynamics”, “Board Effectiveness” and “Leadership Development” are in the forefront of the seminar. A full day of group coaching based on a 360° appraisal gives IN-BOARD participants the opportunity to test and correct their own leadership styles. The Leadership Program gives IN-BOARD its uniqueness and differentiates IN-BOARD from many other executive director seminars. Through the successful co-operation between the alumni associations of the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and Norway IN-BOARD has developed into a truly international, INSEAD spirited initiative to enhance the quality of board work.
IN-BOARD has meanwhile attracted approx. 500 alumni from Europe, thereof more than 130 from Germany where the programme was introduced in 2011.
Since IN-BOARD is also designed to serve as a networking platform for IN-BOARD alumni to network with peers, international IN-BOARD networking events are organized to address this objective, namely to share board experiences and exchange ‘on-boarding’ strategies. The next International IN-BOARD Forum will be organized in Frankfurt in 2021.
