The INSEAD NAA NL Energy Club invites you to the event
“Building a Dutch hydrogen industry”
kindly hosted by Battolyser Systems
The Dutch hydrogen Industry is going through a global reality-check with some national flavours. The NL governments was one of the first European countries with a hydrogen strategy in 2020 and later committed EUR 10 bln to green hydrogen production facilities (EUR 7 bln Klimaatfonds 2022). Subsequently hydrogen project announcements were bidding up against each other, but only one took FID so far. Some companies have publicly delayed their projects, and the national target of 500MW in 2024, 4GW in 2030 and 8 GW in 2032 seems vastly out of reach.
The market fundamental have not really changed and the need of flexible assets (including electrolysers) to alleviate grid congestions has increased, so why this slow down? Is it the late national implementation of EU regulations, the lack of infrastructure, the immaturity of the technology, or simply the higher than anticipated project cost? Let’s discuss!
