ZiuZ is a leading innovator in the development of high-grade computer vision technology for Health Care and Forensic applications. Their solutions utilize traditional pattern recognition and image analysis techniques as well as artificial intelligence. Their innovations ensure that patients receive the correct medications, support efficient and safe diagnosis of medical conditions and prevent the spread of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) online. ZiuZ’s customers are located in over 50 countries around the world and they work closely with universities and research institutes to develop novel technologies that solve socially relevant challenges.
Gerrit Baarda co-founded ZiuZ in 2002. The company’s first product was a digital tool to summarize VHS tapes. The technology sparked the interest of the Dutch police force, who asked ZiuZ to provide tools to support child abuse investigations. In 2009 ZiuZ moved into Pharmacy Automation with the launch of a device to safeguarding medication dispensing using computer vision. ZiuZ is currently working on a variety of solutions for Medical Imaging applications, from machine learning algorithms to diagnose movement disorders to cutting-edge techniques to visualize of blood flow during surgery.
At this SIG Health Care & Life Sciences event, Gerrit will share his experiences in growing ZiuZ from a start up to a leader in Pharmacy Automation technology. He will reflect on the personal journey that launched him from founder to CEO and later prompted him to step back from the role of CEO and instead take on innovation challenges in a fledgling business segment. Time permitting, Gerrit will lead a discussion on a case related to Medical Imaging technology.
