Product Games 4.0 – Competition
Sustainability awareness has been increasing for years and has now reached a new peak. The climate crisis is gaining increased attention globally as the devastating effects of climate change on our planet are increasing in strength and frequency.
Against this background, more governments, conglomerates and individuals around the world have started taking action. Yet, most are still stuck in the awareness phase. The sustainability cycle starts from awareness to taking action, adopting the action and then making it into a habit.
- What is one killer product that can help people move from sustainability awareness to action and even better to adoption of the habit of sustainability actions? For guidance, the UN Sustainable Development Goals provide a shared framework outlining potential efforts to combat the climate crisis.
- Does your product pass the ‘toothbrush test’ by making people develop a habit of taking sustainability actions?
Participants are invited to form teams to develop a product that tackles a sustainability issue for a market of their choice. Teams can use the UN Sustainable Development Goals as guidance. The chosen solution must be built to encourage or influence users to develop sustainable habits and must be validated by the team’s user research. Teams must consist of at least two members and a maximum of five.
- Problem & solution concept validation (e.g. user interviews, prototyping, usability testing)
- Target audience segmentation
- Identification of a key use-case (e.g. business model viability, assessment of impact and trade-offs)
- Decide how to define and measure success of the product
- Identification of success metrics / KPIs and impact estimation (i.e. how many tons per year per family is going to be saved)
- Specifications of the Minimum Viable Product (MVP), including roadmap for potential iteration
- Go-To-Market plan
- Participants are invited to define and develop a product that helps drive users towards the adoption of sustainability actions. The final presentation should be in the form of a PDF, no more than 15 pages (excluding cover page, agenda and appendices).
- Each team can have 2-5 students and at least 2 students are required to be currently enrolled in the same MBA program.
- Visualization is key. The judges would want to see a live demo, mock design or anything that can bring your product to life.
- Presentations are great. Videos are even better as a complementary -it is strongly recommended to incorporate them in your presentations (Kickstarter style)
- Put the user in the center. The judges want to see what the user thinks and feels about the areas you are addressing and what they think about the product. Please provide user research.
- For the final presentation, finalist teams will be required to conduct user research to validate their hypotheses and key assumptions. This skill set will be developed during the product management agile development and design thinking workshop offered by INSEAD to the finalist teams.
