Update on Access to INSEAD’s Campuses

INSEAD has started to reopen its global campuses, including the Asia-campus, for in-person programmes, however due to the ongoing pandemic and social-distancing measures the school is not able to welcome alumni and visitors on campus for the time being. The school thanks the alumni for their understanding as we work together to keep our campuses safe for our in-person programme participants. Click here for more details on our re-opening.

Hot Jobs – help source roles for alumni

In the next few months, the INSEAD Alumni Association Singapore will be uploading high paying jobs (≥ S$200K) for alumni in Singapore to INSEAD’s CareerGlobe portal.

To help alumni weather these challenging times, we regularly curate high paying jobs for alumni and post them on INSEAD’s CareerGlobe portal.

Do help the community by sourcing roles from your company’s internal job portal. Please share them with Apo Ozkececi MCCC’19Dec-S who is taking care of the curation and publication.

CareerGlobe is also accessible via your MyINSEAD profile: go to ‘My Resources’, ‘Career Development for Working Professionals’ and click on ‘CareerGlobe’.

Announcing Winner of ‘Business as a Force for Good Award – 2020’

Congratulations to Right People Renewable Energy (RPRE) for winning Business as a Force for Good Award Singapore – 2020 Edition. The Jury was particularly impressed by RPRE’s transformation journey, their commitment to climate and their inclusive company values.

RPRE founder Robin Pho GEMBA’17 has guided his family business, transforming from providing manpower to the energy industry, to fighting climate change in Singapore and Indonesia. His company, RPRE, is a registered social enterprise in Singapore, and is the only certified B Corporation in South East Asia doing renewable energy. RPRE has a triple bottom line of People, Planet and Profit, and has an Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) focus. RPRE helps businesses operating in remote off-grid areas switch from fossil fuel energy sources to clean renewable energy, primarily solar and batteries.

Since inception, they have commissioned the largest solar and battery system for an Indonesian dive resort (Gangga Island Resort and Spa), helped Kuhlbarra – Barramundi Asia, the largest sustainable fish farm in Singapore, switch their floating fish farm from diesel generators to 100% solar, and also install solar for zero energy residential homes in Singapore.

Social impact is an important element in their projects. Often the local community including women and children also benefit, with increased employment, increased income, and having access to clean energy in their environment. One project they are working on is with the UNDP, to provide energy to rural fisherman in Indonesia to make ice, so that they can preserve the day’s catch better and prevent fish from spoiling while out fishing. Other projects in the pipeline include the world’s first floating hospital barge in Indonesia, and floating solar systems for island resorts – so that trees are not cut and land does not need to be cleared.

In addition, they have an inclusive hiring policy such as working with the UNHCR to hire Afghanistan refugees in Indonesia and hiring people from disadvantaged backgrounds (such as persons with disabilities) in Singapore.

RPRE has shown thought leadership and leads the way, showing that business can indeed be a force for good.

We would like to thank all participating companies for their time and effort in building businesses which provide societal impact and enrich the world!

Call to Action: Support Singapore residents in need

For alumni looking to make a difference during these trying times: Project Green for Impact is bringing together the global INSEAD community to fight the COVID-19 crisis. To support those most affected here in Singapore, we will be highlighting impactful local initiatives: It’s Raining Raincoats and SUN-DAC.

We’ve already started supporting by donating clothes and healthy snacks to migrant workers hosted at the temporary medical facility in a call by physician Dr Estelle Tan. Thank You to the Alumni community that already supported for last week’s donation drive with clothes and snacks!

Whether you choose to contribute financially or in kind, give your time, or share your encouragement and support with the most vulnerable, these are simple ways you can be a force for good in our community, today:

It’s Raining Raincoats

Foreign Workers Need Our Help! If you are wondering how to help those most impacted by Covid 19 in Singapore, consider donating to ItsRainingRaincoats (IRR).

Founded in 2015 by Dipa Swaminathan, a Haravard educated lawyer, is also the spouse of an INSEAD alum, the organization received the President’s Award for Volunteerism and Philanthropy in 2017 for their commitment to improving the lives of migrant workers, and several other awards and recognition since then. They are also featured quite regularly in the media for the unique, authentic and imaginative initiatives they float to bridge the gap between migrant workers and Singaporeans. From distributing raincoats, food, phone cards, Deepavali treats and Xmas gifts to hosting nationwide potlucks to advocating for the ethical rights of these workers, IRR has made its mark in Singapore, bringing to focus the plight of this “invisible” community.

Now, even more so, they need your help. IRR is collecting food and essential items for distribution to the foreign workers in isolation/quarantine. Most needed products are snacks (chips, cookies, nuts, candy bars etc), personal hygiene items (soaps, toothpaste, toothbrush), and hand wash/sanitizers.

If you can source the items above please contact IRR.

To access the one-stop portal for all IRR initiatives to help the migrant workers, click here.

Here’s how YOU can help

Please note they are inundated at the moment and what they ask for are minimal questions and offers of help from individuals and groups who can be self starters, get organised and then reach out for last mile assistance.

The 30 Seconds Challenge – Overcoming COVID-19 and YES to Social Inclusion
#SUNDACCares #SGUnited #30SecondsChallenge #PAssionWaVe

Helping others is happiness, even in difficult times. Physically apart, but still socially inclusive.

This year SUN-DAC marks 30 years of community care service for persons with disabilities and their caregivers. In this current challenging COVID-19 situation, we wish to encourage Singapore and communities that together we can overcome COVID-19, and we also want to encourage Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and vulnerable groups, to do the same! The 30 seconds challenge may be simple, but it may not be so for our vulnerable groups.

Take part and spread hope and encourage others! COVID-19 can’t stop us.

  • Step 1 – Take a pic or video of yourself doing a 30 seconds activity, eg. yoga pose, jumping jacks, running on the spot, steps machine etc. Say/ type “Together we can overcome COVID-19!” and any other encouraging message at the end. Be creative!
  • Step 2 – Copy this message. Post message with your pic or video on social media, tag 5 friends to do the same 30 seconds challenge and post on their social media. I nominate (name1), (name2), (name3), (name4), (name5) to do this challenge, and/or make a donation.

Stay Safe, Stay Close Virtually

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, we are committed to protect our community and our volunteers while staying in touch with each other.

Following a meeting with our Executive Committee this week, we have committed to be an even stronger enabler of connections for our Singapore alumni during these difficult times. We will be launching and moving to virtual / remote events whenever possible. We are also working with other Alumni Associations worldwide and with INSEAD to make available more webinars for our members.

This will allow all of us to stay engaged, educated and connected wherever you are in the world. The online events are free of charge for MEMBERS (join us now). We will give you access with a link sent by email after you register for the event.

The team of Alumni Association of Singapore also remains available for 1o1 meetings and conference calls if you need to reach any of us.

Follow our social media pages Facebook and LinkedIn to stay updated. We have over 1,500 members in our Facebook Alumni Group! All of you can participate and start a conversation.

If you would like to send supporting messages or good wishes to our Dean, Ilian Mihov, please direct your messages to Alumni relations team at INSEAD. They are collecting all the support messages.

As a global business school, INSEAD and INSEAD faculty are also leading from the front during the COVID-19 crisis. Professor Phanish Puranam just launched a short online survey to analyse how it is to really work together when we’re apart. It only takes 5 minutes and we’d love your feedback! • Our Dean, Ilian Mihov, has tested positive and is in isolation following the measures in Singapore. We would like to wish our Dean a quick and speedy recovery.
  • INSEAD will not be able to welcome alumni on any of its campuses or facilities at this time. Therefore, we kindly ask all our Alumni to help support the school in these challenging times and refrain from accessing any INSEAD campus or facilities over the next few weeks.
  • In order to safeguard our Alumni and INSEAD’s reputation, the INSEAD Alumni Association in Singapore has postponed its Annual General Meeting, initially scheduled for Thu March 19th.
  • Singapore government has also issued additional precautionary measures to prevent further importation of cases. These include travel advisories against all non-essential travel abroad, and further restrictions on travellers coming into Singapore.
