Tai SCHIERENBERG

Born to Chinese and German parents and raised in a Jesuit Monastery in the Black Forest, Tai Schierenberg read Medicine at Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School in London, served the NHS for 7 years and worked as a Trauma Surgeon at Baragwanath Hospital, Johannesburg in 2014/5.  He subsequently became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in England and Edinburgh.

Seeking a different approach to Healthcare, however, he opted for an MBA at INSEAD in 1999. After Bain & Company in London, he worked as an Investment Manager for 3iPLC in Munich and Paris and later as a strategic advisor to The PlantBio Investment Trust in Cape Town. During the 10 years in Venture Capital, he concluded a number healthcare deals, managed a diverse portfolio of early stage Biotech and Life Science investments and advised on several mid- and late stage transactions.

Seeking a move from technology to actual healthcare, he then pursued general management and business development for two South African private hospital groups. He managed an acute bed hospital and several physical rehabilitation units. He helped build a national portfolio of renal dialysis units and several acute psychiatric facilities including the first South African private high security units for assisted and involuntary psychiatric admissions.

Since 2015, however, he is working as a business developer for Novia One Group, an international training academy that specialises in business, banking and financial markets training. He is assisting in diversifying the offering into healthcare with specialist courses aimed at training the trainers throughout Southern Africa.
