There were not many divisive elements to [email protected], but paintball was one of them. As soon as the schedule of week one was in the hands of the soon to be participants, “paintball trash talk” inevitably ensued. Wild sentences of varying degrees of boastfulness flew around the campus, and the more competitive souls were particularly loud. On the other side of the spectrum, Chiara was “absolutely terrified” (and I quote).
And yet, people seemed all the more united after paintball. It would seem that, for once, shooting at each other did some good to a group of people. The sporadic fits of laughter and intense competitive nature of the last “ground war” all seemed to bind us together.
Despite all these diverse energies, paintballing was still a blast. People laughed, enjoyed the sweet sensation of victory, and everyone got someone. Sweaty, mildly tired but uninjured participants piled into their respective buses and enjoyed an air conditioned ride home.
20 minutes later, and the environment in the working cubicles was rife with excitement, along with stress, confusion and the general hum drum of YFCD. But like most things at [email protected], a solution is always ready to present itself if you ask the right questions. Some groups did, some groups didn’t, and most groups asked completely different questions. But those mistakes soon turned into experiences, which will feed our future intuitions.
Thanks to Adrian Johnson!!
