Our academic schedule commenced today, with everyone in the amphi by 8:45 where Dr. Thomas Hellwig spoke about leadership, teamwork and emotional intelligence.
After assessing our mood on a sheep-themed mood grid, the group split up into engineering and design teams that worked together to manufacture a paper plane. They had to encounter challenges, with zoom not working, mismatched measuring scales and difficult cost structures to highlight and promote values like perseverance and communication. This exercise certainly helped the students appreciate the value of comprehensive communication in a team.
The day ended with an introduction to the YFCD simulation by our program director, Adrian Johnson, who gave the teams an overview of the company that they will be acquiring and running for the first hundred days.
