The Tradition Lives On: 17th Annual Verbier Ski Weekend

[pullquote align=”left|center|right” textalign=”left|center|right” width=”30%”]Perfect snow conditions for this year’s annual weekend of skiing and fun[/pullquote]

Great powder snow was the highlight of the 17th annual INSEAD Verbier Ski Weekend at the end of January. This year, around 35 alumni and partners ventured to Verbier. It was a truly international group, representing many nationalities, including Chinese, Indians, Russians and Ukrainians, according to Yves Haldemann MBA ‘94D, co-organiser of this year’s event. The three-day get-together began Friday evening with a dinner at Al Capone, a famous Verbier pizzeria.

On Saturday, some freeride-style skiers took to Gentianes, Mont Gelé, Mont Fort, Tortin and Col des Mines for some challenging runs. Audrey Barchha MBA’78, one of the founders of this annual event, took the less advanced, or rather less crazy, skiers to gentler slopes. All parties gathered for Après-Ski drinks at the brand new LeBec Bar, in the stylish W hotel complex at bottom of slopes in Medran, according to Philippe Mauron MBA‘95J, the other event co-organiser. Later on, it was time for some fine Valais wine and a hearty meal at La Grange Restaurant. On Sunday the weather was more challenging, but some determined INSEADers found slopes in the sun to cap the weekend’s unique combination of adrenaline, good food, fun, and Alumni spirit.(This also article appears in the Salamander INSEAD Alumni magazine)
