12 Feb Napoleon’s Leadership: Impact on France & Switzerland, Past and Present

Dear Alumni & Guests,
Join us for an evening business event featuring INSEAD Professor Ludo Van der Heyden.
Napoleon’s  Leadership: Impact on France & Switzerland, Past and Present
February 12, 2019
Join us for a talk by Professor Van der Heyden based on his famous CASE about Napoléon’s military strategy and approach to leadership.
This event follows his last Swiss alumni talk in December 2016 at the Maison de la Paix in Geneva, entitled Napoleon Bonaparte and Fair Process Leadership.
This time the focus is on the impact of his regime on Switzerland. Napoleon is best remembered for his passage across the Alps on his way to his victory in 1800 at Marengo, followed a few years later by his imposition in 1803 on the Swiss cantons and principalities of the famous Acte de Médiation. Just as the French Revolution led to the creation of modern Germany (through the Confederation of the Rhine), of Italy (Bonaparte becoming King of Italy), of modern Austria (after the disastrous defeat of Franz II at Austerlitz the Habsburg Empire becomes the Austrian Empire with the same Franz, but now the First), and of the Latin American countries that emerged after the French invasion of Spain, so it also affected  the Swiss Confederation (comprising 19 cantons).
There will also be commentary on Napoleon’s legacy in France today as the country faces a new revolution (by the gilets jaunes) who aim to once again overturn the country’s leadership, Macron, alias Jupiter. We hope to see you and other lifelong learners  in February.
Register to participate in the discussion and enjoy an apéro riche and networking afterwards.uring INSEAD Professor Ludo Van der Heyden.

Ludo Van der Heyden
INSEAD Chaired Professor of Corporate Governance,

Founder of the INSEAD Corporate Governance Initiative,
Co-Director of the International Directors Programme & of the Value Creation for Owners and Directors Programme
Ludo Van der Heyden was co-Dean of INSEAD from 1990-1995.  He holds an Engineering Degree in Applied Mathematics from the Université Catholique de Louvain and a Ph.D. in Administrative Sciences from Yale University. He lectures on governance, leadership, team dynamics, fairness in business and society, and business model innovation.
