INSEAD Lunch-Conference

INSEAD Alumni Association of Switzerland Geneva Chapter presents

Competing for Tomorrow’s Rules of the Game

featuring Mathieu Trépanier, founder of Tsquared Consulting Partners SA

tomorartworkHotel Métropole, Geneva, Friday March 28, 2014 from 12-2 pm

Can entrepreneurs, CEOs, board members, investors, and business managers avoid being blindsided by the changing rules of the game in their industry? Mathieu Trépanier says the answer is yes, if CEOs and boards anticipate how their company or industry can become the center of attention next. Industries face increasing pressure and scrutiny from regulators, legislators, activists, NGOs, and other influencers. Some describe it as a VUCA world, a world that is Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous. Others talk of crowd governance. The complexity in part arises with new communication technologies, which arguably enable a power shift away from corporations and governments and towards consumers, activists, researchers, and gurus.

Recent examples are easily spotted in the banking and hydraulic fracturing industries and the nuclear energy sector in the aftermath of the Fukushima Daiichi disaster. Crucially, these challenges are no longer limited to developed economies, witness the ongoing tensions in the Chinese infant milk formula market since the melamine contamination scandal of 2008 or the boycott of the Danish milk industry in the Middle East after the publications of the Mahomet cartoons. The Arab spring is yet another recent example. Clearly, social and political forces can affect much more than a company’s reputation; they can challenge its right to operate and frequently lie at the heart of the competitive advantage.

Join us on March 28th to learn more about how to anticipate and analyze the emerging and ongoing social and political challenges that can shift the rules of the game, and how such challenges provide opportunities in specific industries and in specific markets.
