Evening Walking Tour of Soho
Tuesday 11 June
Laid out as one of London’s first “suburbs” following the Great Fire of 1666, Soho is packed with intrigue and surprise. There are plenty of characters to meet along the way: an Italian soprano, Mozart the boy and Marx the lad. We will discover the importance of an old hunting cry, developments in the understanding of cholera, the birth of television and the arrival of tomatoes and grapefruits on our shores, while also discussing the area’s eccentric and bohemian appeal of recent decades.
The walk will be led by Meg Ryder, a Londoner, historian, and qualified solicitor who left the law to establish bespoke walking tours to follow her passion for all things historical, artistic and architectural.
We will meet Meg by the hut in Soho Square Gardens ready to set off on our walk promptly, come rain or shine. The walk will cover around 1.5 miles and will finish at a pub off Carnaby Street (refreshments not included in ticket).
