Will InsurTech eat the insurance industry?
Insurance has only recently become a focus for innovation by InsurTech start-ups. There is a sense that many customers are overcharged and underserved by an industry that many claim has not changed in 300 years and is ripe for reinvention.
Digitally-minded InsurTechs have picked up the challenge and are developing new disruptive approaches to engaging consumers with on-demand insurance, claims chat-bots and insurance portfolio apps. A proliferation of connected devices and new technologies present a vast range of new opportunities for the industry. Though understanding risk and providing appropriate cover for telematics, driverless cars, connected homes (Nest), wearables (HealthTech), cyber-security will need innovative digital approaches.
Can the InsurTechs steal a march and dominate the industry?
Key questions for the panel:
• Where are the biggest changes coming in the insurance industry? Why has it been slow to change?
• How will artificial intelligence impact insurance? Will brokers become obsolete?
• Will we see a radically different approach to risk emerge?
