Thursday 21 April
The latest event in our Roundtable Dinner Series will focus on three of the crucial factors that dictate the success of a business: organisational design, culture and ownership structure.
Organisational design: The ‘Spotify’ model is now widely adopted by fast growth start-ups to organise an ever-growing number of employees around cross-functional ‘tribes’ so that they reach KPIs. It is lauded as a structure that maintains an entrepreneurial spirit despite the size of the workforce. We will hear from Merve Arslan (MBA 12J), who is a tribe lead from Zopa, which is in the process of adopting this structure.
Culture: Andrew Brown (MBA 95D) is an executive member at GLH, London’s largest owner-operated hotel company. Previously, Andrew worked at McDonalds, at a global law firm and at a leading consultancy. Andrew says that all these companies derived their success from their internal culture, and that a poor company culture hinders progress.
Ownership structure: The access a company has to capital has a huge impact on how it will feel and the way it is run. John Burgess (MBA 75) founder of BC Partners, has bought and sold many businesses. He will share his thoughts on how the company performance may vary, based on whether it is privately owned, private equity-owned, publicly listed or falls into another type of ownership structure.
Moderator: Charlotte Burgess (MBA 12J) Business Development Director, Promise Communispace
