Opera Holland Park – Rigoletto
Wednesday 7 June, 18:00 – 22:30
This event is supported by Opera Holland Park

Join us for a magical early summer night at the opera. We will sit under an outdoor canopy, set against the stunning backdrop of the ruins of the historic Holland House for the spectacle of Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto performed by the renowned Opera Holland Park Chorus and the City of London Sinfonia. Prior to the performance, we will enjoy an exclusive reception indoors with Charles Mackay CBE (MBA 69), Chair of the opera’s trustees.

Verdi’s propulsive tragedy of toxic masculinity and unfettered power unfolds at breakneck speed, as Rigoletto, the jester, attempts to shield his daughter, Gilda, from the court of Mantua and a Duke whose greed for pleasure knows no bounds. Cloistered from the city, Gilda falls in love with a young student, unaware that he is the Duke in disguise. A brilliant score contrasts carefree songs of seduction (‘La donna è mobile’) with a gathering storm of natural and human malevolence.
