CANCELLED: Strategic Philanthropy – A Thousand Ways to Balance Wealth and Purpose
Thursday 23 March, 13:00 – 15:15
Sponsored by Julius Baer
Philanthropy is an obvious way to balance wealth and purpose. But it is not a one-size-fits all process, and it can be quite daunting. This session will lead you through the process of developing a strategy to establish clear social impact goals for your philanthropy. We will also showcase tools to help implement the resulting plan for your philanthropy. The topics we will cover include:
1. Working out how much you can afford to give
2. Deciding on the appropriate legal structure for your giving
3. Philanthropy education – just like an MBA for your business career.
4. Tools to identify and select the charities that can deliver your plan
The workshop will be chaired by Marcelle Speller OBE (MBA ’82) – Philanthropist and serial disrupter.
Speakers will include:
Alan Hooks – Managing Director London, Julius Baer
A leading London Charity Lawyer
Sam Underwood, Global Director of Programs, The Philanthropy Workshop
We will not promote individual charities or focus / beneficiary areas, but will share the inspirational personal experiences of a range of philanthropists. This will illustrate the fact that effective philanthropy involves strategic thinking, education and research, and that giving your time, talent, convening power and networks can often be more effective than just giving money.
Our objective is to guide you through the pitfalls, answer your questions and help make your giving as painless, impactful and rewarding as possible – and you can often have more fun giving money than making it!
