Unwrap the story of brands
Thursday 21 September
Join us to explore the origins of some of the world’s defining brands, from the names that punctuated your childhood to some modern monsters. The Museum of Brands has a fascinating collection of packaging, advertising and branding from Victorian Pears Soap to One Direction slippers – and everything else in between.
The half hour talk starts from 1963 when the Museum Director Robert Opie collected his first piece of packaging – a Munchie wrapper! Since that chocolate bar he has collected more than 15,000 examples of packaging and branding, spanning the last 150 years. Hear the whole tale as well as the stories of brands from Birds Custard to Golden Shred. When you’ve had your fill of wrappers and history, relax with tea or coffee in the museum’s cafe and its beautiful gardens.
