INSEAD SIG Healthcare & Life Sciences Event
“The Turnaround of Gelre Ziekenhuizen (Hospitals)”
with:
Pier Eringa (CEO Gelre Ziekenhuizen)
Astrid van den Eikhof (former interim HR Director Gelre Ziekenhuizen, INSEAD Alumna)
Monday, 24 November 2025, 18:30 CET
Location: Auditorium, Gelre Ziekenhuizen Apeldoorn
In 2021, Gelre Ziekenhuizen was placed under distressed asset management by its banks. Four years on, it has returned to financial health and exited earlier than expected. This on-site session takes you inside that journey, how leadership, culture and operational discipline worked together under pressure to stabilise the numbers and rebuild confidence.
Appointed CEO in January 2023, Pier Eringa led the recovery from an operating loss of nearly €20 million to a healthy profit within two years. Known for an energetic, decisive style, he’ll share the starting point, the key interventions and the leadership challenges along the way.
Astrid van den Eikhof, one of our respected SIG Healthcare & Life Sciences members and interim HR Director from April 2024 to September 2025, will reflect on the HR side, positioning the function, implementing consistent policies and restoring trust, culture and engagement.
We’ll then open the floor for a joint conversation on leading a turnaround in healthcare, what works, what to avoid and how to keep people with you when the stakes are high. The discussion will be moderated by Theo van Iperen, turnaround expert and author.
