Meet the New INDEVOR ExCo
Raising Alumni Awareness, Advocacy and Action to
Sustain People & Planet

 

In this newsletter we welcome INDEVOR Global Impact Network’s 2024-2026 executive committee, including Community Impact Challenge president Paolo Senes, who will officially liaise with CIC. And we recognize our growing NAA/Global Club network of sustainability reps. Together we create a vibrant alumni hub for furthering awareness, advocacy and action to work and live in ways that promote equity and sustainability for people and planet.

We also profile recent and upcoming events, including: “Dispatches from Dubai” alumni reports from COP28, current search for the next CIC president, INDEVOR’s 2024 AGM on January 19th, upcoming webinars, ChangeNOW conference in Paris March 25th and our Alumni Sustainable Business Summit May 30th.

 

1.    Welcome to our INDEVOR-GIN 2024-2026 Executive Committee & NAA/GC Network

A big thank you to INSEAD alumni who self-nominated to join INDEVOR Global Impact Network’s executive committee.  Our outgoing 2020-2023 ExCo voted unanimously this month to welcome all nominees!  We added five new voting members, up to our limit of nine, and an official volunteer, a category that allows committed individuals to help with a specific ExCo committee or initiative.  Come meet and ratify our leadership team at INDEVOR’s 2024 AGM on January 19th, 2024, 8 a.m. ET/2 p.m CET/9 p.m SING).  See agenda at point 3 below.  REGISTER HERE

Our growing network of NAA and Global Club sustainability reps are bubbling up initiatives from their constituents that INDEVOR can promote and making their constituents aware of INDEVOR events and initiatives they can join.  We are grateful for the following network allies and look forward to expanding the network as GCs and NAAs contact our liaisons: Patricia Sennequier [email protected] and Jinna Li [email protected].  As of December 2023, INDEVOR is linked to the following GC/NAA Sustainability Reps and looking to grow the network:

 

2. Search for the next Community Impact Challenge president:

CIC is taking nominations for president when Paolo’s term ends after Q1 2024.  Interested in applying?  Click here for detailed information on the leadership role and its requirements. The application deadline is Sunday, January 28, 2024, 11pm PST. Interviews will be conducted in February 2024.

 

3. December 2023: Dispatches from Dubai

COP28 has delivered both promising pathways and some cognitive dissonance on the world’s way forward to decarbonize.   Read our frontline reports from alums Megan Pillsbury and Ram Chaitanya at INDEVOR-GIN’s LinkedIN Group  (and join the group if you haven’t).  Thanks to Kiku Loomis and Nicole Harari for curating and posting!  In addition INSEAD captured videos of alums in attendance.

  2. Ideating in breakout rooms elements of our annual Alumni Sustainability Summit, May 30th, Fontainbleau (hybrid ideas that create local nodes especially welcome).  We’ll send breakout room options once we see our numbers.

6. March 2024: Change Now Summit & INSEAD Impact Entrepreneurship Forum

The Hoffman Global Institute for Business and Society and Rudolf and Valeria Maag INSEAD Centre for Entrepreneurship are creating opportunities for students and alums at the 2024 ChangeNow Summit in Paris 25 March 2024.

For INSEAD students, the Hoffmann Institute will sponsor transportation and tickets to the ChangeNow Summit, and in parallel organize a career trek to Paris-based companies with a sustainability focus.  INDEVOR is collaborating with the Hoffmann Institute to organize an alumni-student networking event at ChangeNow.  If you work in sustainability, can offer a trek stop for students, or join the networking event  please contact [email protected] (HGIBS) and [email protected] (INDEVOR)

For alums working in sustainability: The INSEAD Impact Entrepreneurship Forum: Driving Systemic Change will be held March 25th from 4:00pm – 8:30pm, Blue Bubble, Grand Palais Ephemere, Paris, during the ChangeNow Summit.  It aims to foster connections and conversations on how impact entrepreneurship can drive systemic change for people and the planet.  To RSVP for the event, please complete a short form by DECEMBER 30, 2023:  https://inse.ad/ChangeNow.  Selected applicants can secure their seat in February 2024 with a 25€ registration fee.

7. May 2024: Second Annual Alumni Business & Sustainability Summit

The agenda for this will be our focus at the January 19th AGM.  The plan is to host the summit at Fontainebleau campus on May 30th, in advance of INSEAD’s annual board and volunteers meetings, to limit one-off travel.  We aim to time it so we can offer hybrid participation from other campuses and become a demo for a high-quality hybrid alumni event. Lots of alumni experts have begun planning the agenda, which we’ll share for further ideation at INDEVOR AGM.   Register here

1. INDEVOR EXCO Election: Self Nominations open Oct 1 – Nov. 15, 2023

ATTENTION ALL INDEVOR GLOBAL IMPACT NETWORK ALUMS! We have three openings for 3-year terms on our Executive Committee (ExCo) beginning January 2024 and are thrilled to open the nomination process October 1st. The ExCo is INDEVOR’s governing body with a total of 9 members from around the world, including several leaders of the Community Impact Challenge initiative, INDEVOR serves as host Global Club. We meet for 1 hour every two months and share the load leading events, including webinars and an annual Alumni Sustainability Summit.

To self-nominate, please fill out this form by November 15th. Our selection committee will review nominations and propose a slate of candidates for e-voting the week of December 4th. We are specifically looking to fill three roles:

  • INSEAD Climate Journey Liaison: We need someone familiar with INSEAD’s carbon footprint reduction commitments who is knowledgeable and curious about best practices in climate action. This role will keep INDEVOR updated on progress and alert to places that alumni voices can be helpful encouragers of the journey.  INDEVOR plans to weave INSEAD climate milestones across its learning and advocacy agenda.
  • NAA/GC Sustainability Reps Liaison: We have been organically building INDEVOR/Sustainability reps across National Alumni Associations and need someone with a vision for systematizing the network and info flows and event cross-promotions to and from NAAs.  This role would help develop a cross-NAA/Global Club (GC) advocacy agenda for sustainability learning and action.
  • Webinar Lead: Our learning agenda includes a bimonthly webinar series on social and environmental impact in collaboration with specific NAAs and Global Clubs (GCs).  This role will champion and facilitate webinars with our webinar administrator and NAA/ GC partners to create a repeatable approach to planning, promotion, implementation and feedback. 

Above all, we seek leaders who are passionate and committed to mobilizing the INSEAD alumni community toward positive social and environmental impact to imbue our alums with sustainable life and work practices for people and planet. Many of our members are part of the Community Impact Challenge initiative. Many work in NGOs, CSR, impact investing, social entrepreneurship, international organizations, microfinance, while others are interested in bringing sustainable practices to their corporate workplaces.

As part of our vision, launched at INSEAD’s June 2023 Annual Volunteers Meeting, INDEVOR, with CIC as an action arm, serves as hub of a growing alumni sustainability network across NAAs and Global Clubs in alliance with the IAA and school (including the Hoffman Global Institute for Business and Society and INSEAD Climate Journey, and the INDEVOR student club – where it all began back in 1993.

 

2. Join the Community Impact Challenge (CIC) – StartNOW Oct 2023 Edition!

Dear INSEAD Alumni and fellow climate warriors,We are thrilled to announce that the Community Impact Challenge (CIC) is back and better than ever for its 5th Challenge! It’s time to roll up our sleeves, unite, and embark on a journey towards high-impact climate action. The StartNOW Oct 2023 Challenge invites you to Learn, Act, and Connect as we collectively strive for a more sustainable future.

What is the Challenge about?
The StartNOW Oct 2023 Challenge is designed for INSEAD Alumni who share a deep passion for Sustainability and are eager to connect with like-minded individuals, take meaningful action, and make a positive impact on our planet. Over the course of 4 weeks, you will have the opportunity to:

✅ Learn: Access a wealth of tools and resources to measure your carbon footprint, gaining valuable insights into your environmental impact.

✅ Act: Choose from a selection of 4 Acts that resonate with you the most. This flexible approach allows you to focus on the areas where you are most passionate and committed.

Reflecting on CIC’s 4th Challenge
As we gear up for this exciting new challenge, let’s take a moment to celebrate the
achievements of our past participants in CIC’s 4th Challenge, which took place this past
summer. Here are some impressive statistics:

  • 139 enthusiastic participants joined forces.
  • Participants identified an average emission reduction of 10.6 tons, making strides in areas such as travel and transportation, as well as energy consumption in residential and commercial buildings.
  • A remarkable 30% of the 139 participants completed the challenge and earned a well-deserved certificate.
  • Volunteer facilitators played a vital role in moderating conversations across 7 WhatsApp groups and leading engaging weekly calls.

These numbers are a testament to the incredible impact that individuals can achieve when they come together with a shared purpose. Let’s make the StartNOW Oct 2023 Challenge even more impactful! 5. Wake Up Call on Global Food Crisis – and Some Promising Solutions

INDEVOR had a terrific turnout and panel expertise at its September 26th webinar on “Investment and Action to Address Our Global Food Crisis” in collaboration with Community Impact Challenge. For the full recording access here!

For the highlights, read on:
We heard from Robin Millington (NAA UK) and CEO of Planet Tracker about six ways our food system is killing itself by spiking climate change, and we heard of six priority actions that food investors and consumers can take to turn it around – and profit.

We heard from James Stewart (NAA Australia/NZ) and cofounder of Always Carbon, about an engineered solution to advance regenerative agriculture: Biochar, and we heard from Philippe Dongier (NAA Canada), executive director of global NGO CECI, about a nature-based solution to advance regenerative agriculture: Biodiversity tagging and credits.

Finally, Maria Fedorova, from the Hoffman Global Institute for Business and Society spoke of INSEAD’s own climate journey and how they are influencing food systems by defaulting to vegetarian meals, lowering dairy and vetting suppliers.

Global INDEVOR – Annual Letter – May 2023

Dear INDEVOR members,

We will vote on 3 critical items:

  1. Ratification of three Executive Committee members appointed by ExCo president to fill vacancies since the last general meeting in 2020.
  2. Expanding our objectives to include all things related to social and environmental impact, or “sustainability.”
  3. Expanding our membership to formally invite close collaborators like Community Impact Challenge’s INSEAD alumni members to join INDEVOR and INDEVOR members to join close collaborators, like CIC

1.    Under Objectives: 

  • Amend bullet to add “and environmental” per: “to promote INSEAD’s social [and environmental] impact clubs, groups, events and initiatives
  • Add bullet: “to collaborate closely and jointly with alumni and school initiatives that advance INDEVOR’s purposes”
2.    Under Membership:
  • Add paragraph: We invite INSEAD NAAs and Global Clubs that wish to formalize collaboration with INDEVOR-GIC on issues of mutual interest to encourage their members to join INDEVOR mailing list through MyINSEAD sign up.
