The insurance industry, like many others, is undergoing a profound shift, driven by digital advancements, AI-driven underwriting, predictive analytics, and evolving customer expectations. As technology continues to disrupt traditional business models, insurers are facing both unprecedented challenges and exciting opportunities to redefine the way they operate, assess risk, and engage with customers.
To guide us through this critical discussion, we have an esteemed panel of four senior insurance executives, each bringing deep expertise and unique perspectives on how technology will shape the industry’s future. Moderating the conversation will be David Clamp, an insurance technology veteran who will lead an engaging discussion on key trends, innovations, and the strategic decisions that will define the next era of insurance.
Gilbert Harrap (MBA 16D) is CEO and co-founder of InsurX, a platform that digitally connects insurance brokers and carriers to facilitate the trading of complex commercial insurance risks. InsurX utilises proprietary algorithmic matching technology to enhance market efficiency. Before setting up InsurX in 2022 he was the Head of Strategy at MS Amlin Reinsurance. He holds an MBA from INSEAD and a BSci from the University of Bristol.
David McMillan is the CEO of Esure, he has been responsible for leading different businesses during his career through start-up, high growth, restructuring and turnaround phases and has been the CEO of Esure since 2019. Prior to joining Esure, David was Group Chief Operating Officer of QBE where he was responsible for strategy, transformation, digital, technology and operations. Before QBE, he held various roles at Aviva including CEO Europe and India, Chairman of Global Health Insurance and CEO of UK General Insurance & Group Transformation Officer. David holds and executive MBA from the University of Chicago and is a Fellow of the Institute of Management Accountants. Until March 2023, David was a non-executive director of Scottish Rugby Ltd.
Cristina Nestares (MBA 05J), formerly the UK CEO of Admiral, is a seasoned insurance executive with over 18 years of international experience in the financial services sector. She holds dual degrees in Economics and Law from Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE E-3) and an MBA from INSEAD. In 2005, Cristina joined Admiral Group, where she founded and led Admiral Seguros, the company’s Spanish insurance operation, for seven years. She then managed Admiral’s insurance and price comparison businesses in France, Italy, and Spain before being appointed CEO of UK Insurance in 2016. Under her leadership, Admiral became a UK market leader in car, home, van, and travel insurance. Cristina stepped down from her role at the end of 2024 to take on new roles in insurance.
Hayley Spink is the Group Chief Operating Officer at the Chaucer Group, appointed in October 2024. With over 20 years of experience in the London insurance market, she has held senior leadership roles, including COO at Apollo Syndicate 1969. Prior to this, she spent over a decade at Lloyd’s of London, where she played a pivotal role in leading the Lloyd’s Brexit Programme, ensuring market continuity and regulatory compliance post-Brexit. Her extensive expertise in operational transformation, regulatory frameworks, and strategic execution positions her as a key leader in the insurance industry, driving innovation and efficiency at Chaucer.
Moderator: David Clamp, Founder of the Camelot Network is a senior IT professional over 32 years of experience in banking, investment, and insurance. As CIO of Hiscox Insurance, he led the UK retail digital transformation. Since 2017, he has advised companies on designing and delivering complex digital strategies through Merlin Digital Consulting Ltd. He specializes in digital disruption, IT strategy, Agile/DevOps, and business transformation. David founded The Camelot Network, a group of 200 ex-C-suite insurance professionals. A frequent speaker at industry forums, he covers topics like digital disruption and innovation, with experience across the UK, Europe, Australia, and South Africa.
