Investment in the living sector in EMEA reached €23bn in H2-2024, 6% higher than the prior year and 59% up on a quarterly basis. The professional private rental sector (PRS) alongside its interconnected housing sectors co-living and student accommodation have become one of the most important real estate sectors for institutional capital driven by fundamental tailwinds. The upcoming panel discussion will gather prominent industry leaders and aims to foster a comprehensive dialogue on the current trends, emerging challenges, parallels and opportunities within these living sectors.

 

Charlie Gayner is an innovator and entrepreneur at the forefront of the Living Sector, driven by a passion for strong design, community and cultural experiences within spaces. He has been instrumental in the inception, delivery and operation of two of the most significant Co-living platforms to date, The Collective (valued at £1.5bn) and ARK (1,000 beds in operation). In 2021, he co-founded Re:shape, a vertically integrated development business which has a secured pipeline of 2,250 units and plans to deliver a further 7,500 beds over the next five years.

 

Stanislav Kubacek is Managing Director and Head of Investment at Heimstaden Eastern Europe. Sourcing and executing of residential investments for Heimstaden. Formerly responsible for residential investments in Europe at Round Hill Capital. Prior to this, he was an investment banker in the Goldman Sachs’ European real estate team in London. Stan holds a master’s degree in Finance and Business Strategy from Sciences Po University in Paris.

 

Pedro Sousa is Senior Vice President in Brookfield’s Real Estate Group in Europe. In this role he is responsible for supporting the growth of Brookfield’s European housing strategies. Prior to joining Brookfield in 2019, Mr. Sousa worked for CBRE Investment Management in the London where he was part of the EMEA Transactions team. Before that, Mr. Sousa was based in Spain where he acted as both Asset and Investment Manager for the Iberian Market.

 

Chris Zlatarev (MBA 05D) is a Managing Director of H.I.G. Realty Partners based in London and is responsible for investing and monitoring real estate investments across Europe. He was instrumental in raising and deploying capital for the H.I.G. Europe Realty Partners series of funds and is a seasoned investor across value added, opportunistic and distressed real estate strategies. Previously, Chris was a Partner at Kildare Partners and also held investment roles at Varde Partners and AIG Global Real Estate. Chris has a MBA from INSEAD and a BSc in Finance from Drexel University.

 

Moderator: Ruslan Shopov (MBA 14D) is a Principal Banker in the Real Estate Investment Team at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. With more than 16 years’ experience in real estate he is responsible for sourcing, structuring and execution of debt and equity transactions in all real estate asset classes. More recently, Ruslan originated and led EBRD’s first PRS and co-living deals. Previously, he was a Chief Investment Consultant at Cushman & Wakefield / Forton. Ruslan holds an MBA from INSEAD and is a CFA Charterholder.
