2020 “Business as a Force for Good” Award

In the years following World War II, Georges Doriot came up with the idea that the world needed a new kind of educational institution—one that united people, embraced diversity, and leveraged business to rebuild nations and promote peace. He envisioned an institution that could make a meaningful contribution to society.

That institution, of course, was INSEAD. And in the decades since its founding in 1957, our school has never wavered from that vision. Our belief in using business as a force for good has come to define who we are, what we stand for and how we conduct ourselves in the world.

The INSEAD Alumni Association Singapore and the INSEAD Alumni Fund are proud to launch Singapore’s “Business as a Force for Good” Award.

What is the Award about?

The award will recognise businesses in Singapore who have demonstrated thought-leadership with respect to “Business as a Force for Good”, have a vision, mission statement and strategy clearly demonstrating their commitment, have developed corporate social responsibility best practices and have achieved remarkable economical results and meaningful societal impact.

The award will be presented during the members-only INSEAD Alumni Association Singapore 2020 Annual Gala Dinner & AGM, which will be hosted on 19 March 2020, in presence of Mr. Ilian Mihov, Dean of INSEAD.

Top nominees and the award winner will gain visibility through various PR activities and social media articles sharing details about the award and their company’s accomplishments.

What is the selection criteria?

A jury made of business leaders from various industries will identify the award winner. Selections will be based on the positive impact the organisation has had on society through its corporate social responsibility program or its core business activities.

How can you participate?

Please simply send us the name of either your company or a company that you know well, deserving to be nominated. We will need the name of a representative (yourself or another contact person who is an INSEAD alumnus) whom the selection committee will contact for further details. Nominations must be received no later than 15 February 2020.

The “Business as a Force for Good” Award is a wonderful opportunity to recognise best practices, to give visibility to deserving companies and to promote INSEAD’s mission. We are very much looking forward to hearing from you soon.

NAA of Singapore releases Corporate Governance Handbook 2019

Earlier this week, the INSEAD National Alumni Association of Singapore (NAA SGP) released “The Corporate Governance Journey for Alumni Associations –  Corporate Governance Handbook 2019”

In this handbook, NAA SGP approaches the NAA corporate governance journey from the point of view of different stages of growth. These are based on the different needs and challenges that NAA SGP faced throughout the years—starting up, growing, and maturing. The handbook is a helpful and useful tool for other NAA’s.

Where did the idea of this handbook start? Says Cintia Tavella MBA’07D, President of INSEAD NAA of Singapore and author of this handbook:

“As the INSEAD National Alumni Association (NAA) of Singapore grew – with many new members attracted to the ‘red dot’ city of Singapore coming in at rates of over 10% per year – our Executive Committee also required growth, expansion and sustainability due to the transient nature of this country’s population. I have been on the Executive Committee of the NAA of Singapore for over four years and am now its President. In this short period of time I have seen many volunteers come and go. I have also experienced the committee’s struggle with not having enough team members of resources. One of my key focus areas since becoming President/ President of the NAA of Singapore has been ensuring that there are enough volunteers to deepen community engagement and that we have a good transition plan in place in case a volunteer leaves. This determination led to the creation of this handbook – I wanted to make our Association the case study, whose best practices can help other Associations succeed in their corporate governance journey.”

INSEAD emerges as biggest winner in EFMD Case Writing Competition

INSEAD professors have received five category awards in the 2018 EFMD Case Writing Competition. This represents the most number of awards won by a single business school this year, making INSEAD the biggest overall winner.

Organised since 1988, the Competition recognises innovative and impactful case writing and teaching in 17 categories representing critical management areas.

“Congratulations to Professors Pierre Chandon, Felipe Monteiro, Gianpiero Petriglieri, Jasjit Singh and Craig Smith for their winning cases”, says Ziv Carmon, Dean of Research and The Alfred H. Heineken Chaired Professor of Marketing, “We are delighted with the consistent and exemplary performance of our faculty in international case writing competitions. This is another testament of INSEAD’s dedication to the case study method and reaffirms our commitment to offer relevant and rigorous research and education by integrating current real world management issues into our curriculum.”

BAFG 2019 Winner – Ecosofft

ECOSOFFT. Sam Al-Schamma (TIEMBA ‘13 ), a board member and investor in ECOSOFTT accepted the award on behalf of Marcus Lim (TIEMBA’13) and Stanley Samuel (TIEMBA’13). This social enterprise aims to address the global challenge of water shortage, scarcity and quality. ECOSOFTT has delivered more than 50 projects, providing safe drinking water to thousands of people; reduced fresh water intake by almost five-million litres per day; and reclaimed millions of litres of dirty water for re-use.

Congratulations to ECOSOFTT for winning the ‘Business as a Force for Good Award Singapore 2019 Edition’.

Nominations for the award included firms from a variety of industries and ECOSOFTT, a social enterprise that aims to address the global challenge of water shortage, scarcity and quality, emerged as the winner.

ECOSOFTT was founded by two graduates of the INSEAD TIEMBA programme, Stanley Samuel and Marcus Lim, both TIEMBA’13J. Their work has helped enable numerous communities to be self-reliant, water secure and sustainable.

At the moment the company’s projects reduce fresh water intake by almost five-million litres per day. It has also transformed the lives of thousands of women and girls who have returned to school or learnt economically-useful skills, because they no longer spend hours each day collecting water.

It is wonderful to see that many INSEAD alumni are enabling ‘Business as a Force for Good’ and the National Alumni Association in Singapore is looking forward to recognising such initiatives by making this award an annual tradition

 

ECOSOFTT is a social enterprise that aims to address the global challenge of water shortage, scarcity and quality by providing modular, water-management solutions. These enable communities to be self-reliant, water secure and sustainable.

They reduce fresh water intake and footprint by over 50%; reclaim, recycle and reuse over 80% of used water and discharge the surplus in an environmentally-friendly way to replenish sources or give to others.

So far ECOSOFTT has delivered more than 50 projects, providing safe drinking water to thousands of people; reduced fresh water intake by almost five-million litres per day; and reclaimed millions of litres of dirty water for re-use.

They’ve also transformed the lives of more than a thousand women and girls who have returned to school or learnt economically-useful skills, because they no longer spend hours each day collecting water.

ECOSOFTT’s vision is by 2050 to treat over one-trillion litres of water per day; enable 10,000 communities to become water smart; and protect, clean and restore a thousand water bodies.
